Temecula is a fun and vibrant town, with a selection of recreational and entertainment facilities to match any modern urban city. Although this is a majorly developed metropolitan center in Riverside County, the surrounding countryside is largely untouched and has seen little development.

Temecula Recreation & Outdoor Entertainment

Nature lovers will certainly find much to keep them occupied if they reside in Temecula. Just outside of the city can be found Diamond Valley Lake; this is a major reserve water source for the entire State of California.

To the south of the lake you’ll find over 13,000 acres of natural open space, which is named the Southwestern Riverside County Multi Species Reserve. This area is currently home to around 15 endangered or threatened species of animal and plant life. Currently a system of trails is being constructed which will allow visitors to explore the reserve and eventually circumnavigate the entire lake on foot.

 For something almost as natural, but with more focus on water sport and fun, a visit to Lake Skinner is a great event for all the family to enjoy. The site compromises of around 6,000 acres of park land, of which a staggering 1,000 acres is water, is open seven days a week, from sun up until sun down. Activities available include boating, fishing (bait available on site), kayaking, swimming and camping. There are also a whole host of hiking and equestrian trails for your family to explore.

Temecula Museums

For those interested in history, the Temecula Museum offers a glimpse of Temecula past. The museum aims to be fun for the whole family and includes a children’s interactive discovery area, and a hands on discovery center which features a recreated general store, dress shop and ride a pony station. There are picnic facilities and a children’s playground situated in a park just outside the museum entrance.

Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival

A major event on the Temecula annual calendar is the Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival. Quite how these two very different subjects became fused into a single festival is not clearly visible, but it is a fun event for sure. Much more than a simple display and viewing style of festival, this event lies on a full range of entertainment, and includes a large selection of art and craft demonstrations.

The food court is especially well renowned as is the wine tasting session, which features not only local wines produced in Temecula but wines from across the entire State of California. In recent years it has been possible to actually take a flight in a hot air balloon. Each year the event seems to grow, and the fun factor increases, this is an event you cannot miss if you live anywhere near Temecula.
